Planning Department
The Planning Department's two major areas of emphasis are project review and long range planning. The project review emphasis consists of working with applicants, the public and City decision-makers to ensure that all new development proposals are consistent with the Langley Comprehensive Plan, Municipal Code and Shoreline Master Program. The department’s long range planning emphasis focuses on the care and maintenance of the City's Comprehensive Plan and development regulations, with the recognition that these documents are the primary tools that will guide how Langley will grow over the next 20 plus years.
The Planning Department also bears primary responsibility for staffing the Planning
Advisory Board (PAB), Design Review Board
(DRB), Parks and Open Space Commission (POS), and Historic Preservation Commission (HPC); for creating and updating maps such as zoning and critical areas maps; for interpreting development regulations as they apply to private property; and for maintaining land use-related records.
