BE A GARDEN ANGEL: Support the Langley Community Garden
The Langley Community Garden is a City of Langley Neighbor-to-Neighbor project in partnership with the Anderson Family. It was started in May 2010 to support the use of agricultural lands to grow food locally. The garden is located at the corner of Fairgrounds Road and Al Anderson Avenue. There are 16 garden plots available to local residents.
Your Donation Supports:
1. Irrigation System - To Support sustainable watering practices
2. Shed & Tools - For the gardeners to use while gardening
3. Other start-up and first year costs

JOIN THE WATER SAVER CHALLENGE
Register By Friday, July 9th
Join this summer’s effort to reduce Langley's energy footprint by taking part in the 2010 Water Saver Challenge. The City of Langley’s single largest electric expense is to pump and treat water. See if you can use less water this summer than you used last year and reduce your water bill.
Sign-up for the challenge and public works will analyze how much you save this summer compared to last year. If you and two of your neighbors sign-up together you will also be entered into the Neighbor-to-Neighbor category (send one email or have one person sign-up at the front desk with all the names and addresses).
All participants will be recognized, with special recognition for the top three water saver individuals and Neighbor-to-Neighbor participants. Recognition will be given on the city website, at a city council meeting, and in the newspaper.
City water users can register to participate at City Hall during business hours, or email your name and address to Challis Stringer at pubwks@langleywa.org.

PUBLIC NOTICE: Determination of Nonsignificance (DNS) for the
Municipal Parking Joint Use Project
The City of Langley has issued a Determination of Nonsignificance (DNS) with a 14-day comment period for the Municipal Parking Joint Use Project. This project seeks to provide 50 public parking spaces on the corner of 6th Street and Cascade Avenue at the existing Christian and Missionary Alliance Church (CMA) parking lot. Langley Expanding Parking through Collaborative Project
The Municipal Parking Joint Use Project will provide 50 public parking spaces on the corner of 6th Street and Cascade Avenue at the existing Christian and Missionary Alliance Church (CMA) parking area.
The City of Langley will improve the church parking area through paving, landscaping, lighting and upgrading the storm water system to current environmental and Low Impact Development standards. In exchange for the improvements there will be designated public parking spaces for use during the work week.
Grants for this project were awarded in 2005 and 2006, but due to the private/public partnership the state and federal funding approval was just secured in 2009. When completed, the parking lot will connect to the Island Transit bus route and the Cascade Avenue walkway to downtown and the Langley marina. The lot will provide parking for commuters, visitors and employees of local businesses to relieve parking congestion in downtown.
At the October 5th city council meeting the council approved a contract with the Oak Harbor firm, Cane Engineering, to develop a preliminary set of plans and a construction cost estimate for the project.
